What is Sustainability?

If there was a “word of the decade” this word might be a top contestant. Although, the true meaning might sound fairly generic considering how popular the word has become since first originating in 1974. Webster has two definitions of this word:

“of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged”

“of or relating to a lifestyle involving the use of sustainable methods”

Simple enough, right?

Sure...but what does it really mean for an average joe trying to live their best life? I would bet if 100 people were asked for a definition, we would receive 100 different answers. And that's the beauty of sustainability. How I implement sustainability in my life will be different then my next door neighbor, different then my college cousin in LA, and much different then my aunt living in NYC. However, we all understand that as individuals we each have decisions to make with choices that are more sustainable than others. How do we know which option is more sustainable? What if you don't have time to research? What if the other only sustainable way is more expensive?

Well my friends, these are the questions I want to explore. And I want to share with you. If there is a sustainability question you’d like to know, send it my way! I want to unlock the mysteries, the myths, the false-truths, and everything in-between. No question is off the table.

Let's learn together how we can make more sustainable choices for a greener world tomorrow.
